We are hiring a Field Vice President for Africa South Central - which includes the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania, Zanzibar, Burundi, and Congo Brazzaville. This Leadership role is responsible for building a healthy culture, provide spiritual leadership and strategic vision for ministry in the division, model healthy supervision and leadership development of staff, make personnel decisions, and develop resources to help sustain and grow ministry to reach every kid.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Ministry Functions
Spiritual Leadership — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, study, prayer, and worship.
- Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.
- Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
- Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
- Ensure that all Young Life ministry in the division is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Healthy Culture — “Proclaiming and modeling” ministry.
- Build a healthy culture, steeped in spiritual disciplines, diversity, equity, belonging, truth, transparency, curiosity and innovation.
- Ensure the development and implementation of measurable plans for the health, nurture and encouragement of staff, volunteer leader, committee members and donors in each region.
- Visit regions including routine and emergency crisis visits.
- Observe and evaluate regions to ensure Young Life ministry to include camping is carried out with excellence.
- Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication.
- Serve on the U.S. Field Leadership Team.
- Attend Global Leadership Conference and other meetings as requested.
Performance & Leadership Development — “Equipping staff, leaders, and committee” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training and supervision.
- With GSVP approval, hire and place regional directors.
- Supervise, develop and evaluate regional directors and divisional staff, providing resources and experiences needed to implement the vision of the Mission.
- Ensure RDs begin and sustain healthy Young Life areas in as many locations as possible in their regions.
- Oversee the hiring, orientation, and training of key leadership staff to build a technically strong, well supported, engaged team.
- Collaborate with key departments (i.e. Finance, Human Resources, Learning & Leadership Development, etc.) as needed.
- Work alongside the GSVPs, VPs, and Regional Directors to ensure the success of all focus and life stage ministries by developing clear goals and accountability at every level of mission leadership, which includes ME, Capernaum, YoungLives, WyldLife, YLCU, Military, etc.
- Effectively plan and support career pathing/succession planning for all staff.
Financial Health — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
- Oversee the financial health of the Division to include each region and help meet the financial needs of the overall mission of Young Life.
- Ensure finances are managed with stewardship, equity, accountability and transparency.
- Lead the division’s fundraising strategy, ensuring excellence in communication to donors.
- Raise the necessary funds to carry out the divisional ministry vision.
- Identify and cultivate national and/or global donors.
- Work with Development team to identify and cultivate potential donors for missionwide efforts and camp capital campaigns.
Vision & Strategy – “Casting the Vision” includes leading the strategic vision for the division.
- Provide vision and direction, strategic planning, staff engagement and overall leadership for reaching all adolescents in the division to include the design and execution of recruitment, retention and staff development initiatives that advance diversity, equity and belonging.
- Develop and lead strategic initiatives to advance the Mission and oversee and implement plans in collaboration with the GSVP and other senior leaders (i.e. MLT, SVPs, VPs etc.).
- Ensure annual strategic plan is in place to grow Young Life in the division to include all stage of life and focus ministries.
- Build and maintain effective relationships between Camping, Field, Development and Mission Services staff and hold team accountable for doing the same.
- Identify, frame and execute key goals at a divisional level.

Professional Qualifications
- 10+ years’ progressive ministry experience with a minimum of 5+ years in a leadership role building and overseeing missional community; YL experience highly preferred.
- Experienced at change management and the learning aspects that accompany transformative change.
- Adept at building collaborative and productive relationships both within the division and across the Mission
- Comfort in managing through influence and effectively navigating organizational dynamics.
- Proven track record in creating and executing large scaled strategies that involve planning, analysis, and geographic location design for a growing and evolving missional community.
- Experience partnering with an executive leadership team, driving best use of the existing strategies and practices as well as advising on future strategies for the mission.
Education
- BA required
- MA and additional Biblical/Theological course work preferred
Working Conditions
