Description:

Young Life South LA is seeking a new part-time Mission Staff member to work from 15 to 30 hours a week. This person will specifically focus on direct ministry at one school in Compton. Expectations would include developing relationships with students, recruiting and leading a small team of volunteers, and launching a club/ministry at Compton High School, Dominguez High, and Centennial High School. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about following Jesus, loves teenagers, and is teachable/coachable.

Responsibilities:

• Spiritual Development – Creating and leading a spiritually healthy environment in which all those connected to Young Life grow in their faith.

• Leadership Development – Recruiting, training, and supporting a team of volunteers to serve as leaders and committee members.

• Resource Development/Fundraising – Raising personal support as well as partnering with the committee to raise budgeted revenue.
  
  - Raising personal support from the employee's network.
  - Working with the committee for area support/fundraising events.

• Direct Ministry – “Proclaiming and Modeling” includes Contact Work: Club, Campaigners, and Camp. Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.

• Ministry Support – Work with the local committee to build community connections, and support the overall organization of the area. Practice excellence in administration and communication.

• Training – This person will report to the regional director and will be expected to participate in regional and national training events.

Qualifications:

• A deep and growing faith in Jesus.

• A call to reach students with the Gospel.

• Proven leadership skills.

• Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.

• Recent youth ministry experience -- 7th through 12th grades.

• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Completion of a college degree preferred.

• Completion of Young Life Staff Associate training program preferred, or another relevant training equivalent.

• Willingness to raise personal financial support.

Notes:

Compton is a city located in the Gateway Cities region of Los Angeles County, in Southern California, south of downtown Los Angeles. Compton is one of the oldest cities in the county. Compton has a population of 93,597. The Mission Staff person would report directly to the Metro City Director. The Mission Staff person must display the capability to serve a diverse group of kids in Compton, California. It is necessary that the Mission Staff person have aptitude to work with committee members of the South LA Board.
