Staff Associate - NW Fairfax, Virginia

Department: Field Ministry
Location: Fairfax, VA

Description:

We are seeking someone who is called and committed to reaching teenagers with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to grow an existing high school ministry in Northwest Fairfax (NWFX). The staff associate will work closely with the area director to further develop and grow volunteer leaders in the area, plan and execute fundraising events and initiatives, participate in direct ministry, and develop personal communication and leadership skills. The staff associate will have the opportunity to work with and learn from seasoned staff, volunteers and committee members as well as develop new leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • LEADERSHIP – Participate in and lead dynamic direct ministry in the area (club, Campaigners, contact work, camp).
  • MINISTRY – Train and equip a community of volunteer leaders to plan and implement outreach ministry with excellence.
  • Cultivate a sense of belonging for all students through relationships rooted in sustained, consistent contact work.
  • Lead kids and leaders at camp and serve on assignment teams as directed by the Capital Region.
  • COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Build and steward relationships with key parents, teachers, coaches, donors and community members.
  • FUNDRAISING – Actively participate in area fundraising, raise personal support, execute excellent donor care.
  • TRAINING – Learn alongside other Capital Region staff associates at regional training meetings, complete Young Life training courses (New Staff Training, Leadership I and II, Winter Training).

Qualifications:

  • Two to three years working with teenagers.
  • One to three years full-time work experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear, direct verbal and written communication.
  • Emotional and cultural intelligence and a willingness to grow in both areas.
  • Extensive background/experience working with students through Young Life or other church or para-church organizations.
  • High capacity relationally as well as flexibility to juggle many tasks at once.
  • Leadership ability in recruiting, developing, supervising and retaining volunteers.
  • Commitment to raising personal financial support.
  • Capability and enthusiasm to work with people from diverse socio-economic and economic backgrounds.
  • Commitment and skills to lead a diverse team to reach all types of kids.
  • Willingness to commit to the role for two years.
