Divisional Campaign Director for Africa / Middle East Division

Location: Colorado Springs, CO

This position will provide leadership to Africa/Middle East division development operations.

 

Essential Duties

Oversee the Africa/Middle East Division’s development activities (approximately $75M funding budget over the next five years) including Major Donor Care, Sustaining Gifts, Sponsorship Programs, Regional Team Initiatives, Grants and Foundations:

Major Donor Care

  • Develop major donor personal engagement, communication and event strategies to care for existing donor base as well as expose other potential major donors to ministry opportunities.
  • Advise the senior vice president (SVP) on fundraising and major donor strategy in coordination with other mission leaders who are also working on major donor strategy.
  • Assist president, SVP, board members, field leadership and volunteers in major donor activities where needed.   

Sustaining Gifts

  • Work with the SVP to secure sustaining gifts in accordance with the needs defined in the Forward Forecast. These gifts are multi-year commitments to fund the mission, give a runway to build out sponsorship programs and provide venture capital. These gifts are currently defined as:
    • Continent Sponsorships ($500k+ per year).
    • Regional Block Sponsorships ($300k per year).
    • Other sustaining gifts with a minimum of $300k over five years.
  • Work with the SVP to organize, lead and maintain communication with the Executive Campaign Committee (ECC). This ECC will meet multiple times each year together as well as host “Road Show” events to present the mission to friends.

Sponsorship Programs

  • Work with the sponsorship director and sponsorship coordinator to continue to sustain and evolve the sponsorship programs (Country, Staff and Camp).
  • Provide oversight and direction to the sponsorship director to ensure that annual sponsorship goals as set out in the Forward Forecast are met.

Development Coordinator 

  • Closely monitor monthly sponsorship activity and help the sponsorship director revise plans where needed.

Regional Team Initiatives

  • Work with the regional team development directors to develop and execute initiatives that can be executed through regional teams to promote fundraising, support and donor care at the regional team level.   

Grants and Foundations

  • Establish goals and strategies for different tiers of foundations as it relates to research, grant writing and performance reports.   
  • Monitor quality of Foundations office support of field needs and internal grant office's products (research and proposals). 

Other Essential Duties

  • Recommend to the SVP and vice president of Development strategic initiatives and ideas designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of development work at all levels.
  • Mentor Development personnel in the division individually and call them to think and act strategically, leveraging their time and resources.
  • Help to define and lead efforts to eventually raise a significant portion of our Development budget on the continent of Africa and in the Middle East.
  • In conjunction with division communications team and sponsorship coordinator, expand and further develop the thanking process, including events and both personal and mail contacts.
  • Work with the director of Operations to prepare and monitor financial budgets. Review monthly.
  • Training - provide leadership to developing training at all levels in the Development team.
  • Actively participate in the recruiting and hiring of additional staff as needed.
  • Participate as appropriate in missionwide, divisional, regional and development staff meetings.

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Participate in activities of the International Development staff (attend periodic group calls, attend approximately three meetings per year, interface with international development director).
  • Organize, invite and lead donor vision trips to divisional venues with purpose of exposing and inviting attendee’s to sponsor and donate to staff and/or initiatives.  
  • Personal fundraising will be required as a part of the International Development team. Level determined on a case-by-case basis.

 

Working Conditions

  • Remote office environment in a personal home office or Young Life Service Center
  • Some travel required.

 

Qualifications:

Education

  • Master's degree preferred.
     

Experience Required for the Job

  • Proven track record in successfully leading a major nonprofit, university or foundation’s development efforts or equivalent industry sales experience.  
  • Demonstrate understanding of the non-profit and specifically Young Life culture in terms of values, resources, priorities, organization, ministry culture, etc.
  • Life and/or business experience.
  • Spiritual and personal leadership gifts.
  • Experience in funding a major mission or equivalent industry sales experience, working with foundations, and a basic understanding of planned giving.
  • Ability to provide leadership in strategic thinking.
  • Ability and disposition to lead and manage professional development staff.
  • Track record in working effectively as a team member with other Young Life staff and volunteers.
