Legal Services Intern

Department: Legal
Location: Colorado Springs, CO

This self-motivated first or second year law student will have strong motivation to research and write on important legal issues impacting a religious non-profit organization. As assigned by supervising attorney, he or she will be asked to thoroughly analyze legal questions on issues like tax, human resources, intellectual property, corporations, international transactions, and risk management.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Research federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

  • Research federal and state case law.

  • Clearly and concisely write legal memoranda and legal opinions under attorney supervision.

  • Assist attorney and paralegals in consulting with Young Life staff on open legal matters.

  • Participate in department meetings by offering ideas, input, and feedback.

  • Review and draft contracts under attorney supervision.

 

Education:

  • Must have, at least, completed the first year of law school at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment.

 

Qualifications Required for the Job:

  • Must be willing to take instruction and constructive criticism well.

  • Must have professional desire to serve the legal needs of a non-profit, Christian missions organization.

  • Must be proficient in legal research and writing as evidenced by performance on law school coursework.

  • Must display creative problem solving skills.

  • Must demonstrate professionalism and the personal skills necessary to interact with a variety of individuals and groups.

  • Must be able to multi-task a variety of projects under tight deadline pressure.

  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office tools.
